CO ECO COR. Studio– Babylon
The design philosophy of Co Eco Cor extends beyond form…
The space is centered on a courtyard covered by a glass roof, from whose center emerges a tree growing within a water basin, evoking the spirit of ancient Babylonian courtyards. Above this courtyard is a glass roof covered with carefully designed bamboo thatch elements, which filter and gently refract natural light, creating a visual balance between shadows and movement,
giving the space a changing temporal rhythm that harmonizes
with the moments of the day. Natural light permeates this roof,
adding depth and life to the space throughout the day….
2023 _ 2025
This project, Ardh Restaurant, offers a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional courtyard architecture, located in the Al-Hussein District of Babylon, Iraq.
The design fosters a serene and immersive dining experience where architecture and nature engage in a harmonious dialogue. At the heart of the space lies a skylit atrium, where a tree emerges from a tranquil water basin, echoing the spirit of ancient Mesopotamian inner courtyards. Sunlight gently filters through a bamboo-covered glass ceiling, casting poetic and dynamic shadows that shift throughout the day. The use of natural, locally sourced materials—such as textured plaster, stone flooring, and handcrafted mosaic details—reflects the region’s rich cultural and architectural heritage. Ard is more than just a restaurant; it is a sensory and
spatial journey rooted in identity, stillness, and a deep respect for the land.
